The Dallas Cowboys came into the 2023 season hoping their gamble on a former professional soccer player would pay off.
Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey is a perfect 16-for-16 on-field goal attempt which has him two makes shy of tying the NFL record set by Travis Coons in 2015.
Aubrey could be well on his way to breaking the record. He might even do it Sunday against the Rams.
The Cowboys host Los Angeles this Sunday, and funny enough, after struggling last week, they cut Brett Maher.
The former Cowboys kicker was good early in the year with the Cowboys in 2022, and ever since that playoff game where he had the yips, he has not recovered well.
Notre Dame soccer product Brandon Aubrey is a perfect 16-of-16 on field goal attempts for the Cowboys this season. He kicked last night’s game-winner late in the fourth quarter.

Aubrey’s adventure
Aubrey played soccer at Notre Dame, making 76 appearances and scoring 15 goals.
He was drafted by the Toronto FC 21st overall in the 2017 MLS draft.
After being unable to find his footing at the pro level, he decided to try football.
In 2019, Aubrey started training with a coach full-time and independently in his garage during the pandemic.
He then got a chance in the USFL.
He was picked up by the Birmingham Stallions in 2022. Aubrey went on to make the All-USFL first team and two league titles.
When he signed with Dallas this summer, I thought he could not make the team, but here we are.
I am glad I was wrong; now, maybe once he missed, it will shake his confidence a little bit.
We saw it with Maher last season.
Although Maher had a history of missing kicks before last year, he was great for 98% of the season.
Obviously, Aubrey isn’t going to go the entire season without missing a kick.
I hope the first time he does miss is not to win a game.
That is the one spot we haven’t seen him with a ton of pressure.
He did kick the go-ahead field goal against the Chargers, so that was some pressure.
How will he do when the game is on the line, and it’s either you make it and win, or you miss and lose?
Well, until he does miss a kick, I will go with he is going to make it. At least for now.
I’ll be the first to admit that I wanted Robbie Gould or Mason Crosby.
I never saw this coming from Aubrey. I really hope he can continue to keep it rolling. I understand he will miss at some point, but I am no longer worried when he runs out there that he is going to miss a kick.
The Cowboys are sitting pretty right now in the NFC. With a win Sunday, they will have the same record as the 49ers, even with a horrible loss to them.
The week after, they can take control of the NFC East by going into Philly and making a statement.
Aubrey, we are going to need you to stay hot and extend this NFL record for as long as possible!
Keep making those kicks!
He can thank Dak for that he gives him plenty of practice.
he’s great. i am very pleased with Dallas’s decision and the gamble paid off. would love to see him advance into the record books and beyond. GO COWBOYS!!!!
Does anyone proof these articles? The grammar mistakes are so glaringly apparent. For example: braking the record? Hmm, is this about a car or football? Someone needs to check these articles before publishing.
Thank you for catching the one mistake that was written, appreciate it.
Really, the grammar police. You are probably not even a sports fan. You probably just read articles to find a mistake and scream about it. Grow up Karen.
