rpaolinelliWhen it comes to the Dallas Cowboys’ fantasy numbers in Week 5 only one word applies: Forgettable.
KaVontae Turpin led the Cowboys in fantasy points for the week. Turpin posted around 13 points depending on scoring formats.
And, of course, he got hurt and will miss at least the next month with a high ankle sprain.
No other player on the Dallas roster generated much, even in PPR leagues. Dak Prescott finished with just under 10 points thanks to three interceptions.
Tony Pollard and CeeDee Lamb collected about eight points each in PPR leagues, and less where points are not allotted for receptions.
The Cowboys’ defense was the top team in fantasy coming into the week and barely retained that slot after Week 5
Getting one sack and one turnover while allowing over 400 yards and 42 points does not translate well into fantasy points.
It was just as ugly in fantasy for owners of Cowboys players as it was for the players on the field. Hopefully not many started.
For The Year
Looking at how the Cowboys rank overall five weeks into the season there is but one conclusion: It could be better.
It could also be a lot worse.
Using the scoring system for my three leagues as a guide, Prescott sits 21st among starting quarterbacks in points. Pollard sits 12th among the running backs.
Among the receivers, Lamb is 18th, Turpin is 62nd, Michael Gallup is 70th , and Brandin Cooks is 120th.
Jake Ferguson ranks 14th among tight ends. That puts him right behind Dalton Schultz by just two fantasy points.
Brandon Aubrey is 4th among kickers and just two fantasy points behind the Rams third place kicker, Brett Maher.
Aubrey is two points ahead of the fifth place kicker, another former Cowboys kicker, Nick Folk.
Despite Sunday night’s meltdown, the Cowboys’ defense remains the top unit in fantasy football. But their lead was cut in half by the Bills.
Aubrey and the defense are must-starts. Prescott, Pollard, and Lamb are starters if you have no better option at this point.
Everyone else are no better than bye week replacements at this point.
The Trade Judge Cometh
No major trades were submitted. My Bailiff – Bubba J. Bonecrusher – let me down this week too.
So the Judge will have to settle for giving you some friendly advice instead.
Aside from Aubrey and the Cowboys’ defense, don’t start any player from Dallas for a few weeks until they get their offense in order.
If you are not in a keeper or dynasty league, you should probably find that owner that just has to have a Cowboys player on his roster.
Then make a trade. Get whatever you can. The Judge won’t overrule you even if you settle for a stale bag of Cheetos in return.
That’s Moore Like It
The Washington Commanders are still seeing D.J. Moore in their nightmares. They probably will be for the rest of the year.
Moore was unsurprisingly the top scorer in fantasy football in Week 5.
He dropped 66.5 fantasy points in my leagues’ scoring format – half his total for the season.
He’s now the top scorer among non-quarterbacks in fantasy football. Can he continue to put up solid numbers?
That’s the question in Chicago, and in fantasy.
But that was a very nice week if you had him on your roster and if you started him.
Speaking of which…
My Fantasy Teams
I mentioned the Commanders and their non-stop nightmares regarding Moore. An owner in one of my leagues is sharing that nightmare.
He dropped Moore in Week 4. I picked him up in waivers before Week 5 began.
He was 5-0. I was 1-4. We played each other this week.
I started Moore.
He’s no longer undefeated and I’m now just one game behind first in my division.
To be fair, Scribe’s Penmen was the top scoring team in the league last year. So the win wasn’t unexpected.
And its nice to see one of my teams starting to look like it has a chance with a two-game win streak under its belt.
Unfortunately the same can’t be said of the other two. Both the Grim Reapers and Pigskin Fiction continue to struggle.
One team is snake-bit and the other just plain sucks – if I can borrow that adorable turn of phrase from Donte Whitner.
I’m considering calling in an Exorcist at this point.

I’ve got 26 division titles and 12 league championships under my belt. What? You think I only religiously keep track of records for the Cowboys?
Cowboys fans need to understand the reason this game was such a beat down was because the Cowboys are bad in the red zone. Even if the Cowboys went all the way down the field they still have the problem in the red zone still wouldn’t want this game.
No kidding
And Turpin got hurt on a dirty tackle out of bounds. No flag was thrown. Bullshit
