The Dallas Cowboys will have today off. They’ll likely be watching some of the NFL action along with the rest of us.

When they take the field at SoFi Stadium on Monday night they’ll bring along a 31-25 record in Week 6 games.

They’ve had six bye weeks fall on the sixth week of the schedule in the previous 63 seasons.

They also lost a Week 6 game due to the 1982 players strike. They’ve never faced the Chargers in a Week 6 contest.

Dallas is 19-9 when playing a Week 6 game at home. But like last week, they carry a losing record in Week 6 games played away from home.

The Cowboys are 12-16 in those games – the second straight week with losing record on the road.

Streaks Interrupted

The Cowboys have had three streaks involving Week 6 games interrupted by bye weeks.

Dallas won five straight Week 6 games between 1991-1995. A bye week in 1996 paused the streak and a loss at the Giants in 1997 ended it.

The Cowboys also won six straight Week 6 home games between 1992-2003.

The 1996 bye week, along with the 2000 and 2001 bye weeks interrupted that run.

Between 2007-2012, Dallas lost five straight Week 6 games. A 2009 bye week paused that run.

It is the longest losing streak for Dallas among its Week 6 games.

Long Time No See

Monday’s game against the Chargers will be only the second time Dallas has faced an AFC West team in Week 6 of a season.

The first time came on Oct. 25, 1970, when the Cowboys faced the Chiefs in Kansas City. It was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

Dallas prevailed 27-16 over the team that used to play as the Dallas Texans in the old AFL.

Duane Thomas rushed for two touchdowns and Bob Hayes caught an 89-yard touchdown pass from Craig Morton.

The Cowboys picked off Len Dawson, the reigning Super Bowl MVP, twice in the game. It was the first year following the merger of the two leagues.

Against The Chargers

The Cowboys are 7-5 all-time against the Chargers dating back to Dallas’ 34-28 win at San Diego in 1972 in their first meeting.

Dallas is 5-2 on the road against the Chargers. The Cowboys won the last meeting, in 2021.

  1. I’m guessing a 10-17 point loss for the boys. A vanilla offense with all the injuries and Chargers coming off bye week.

Aubrey continues to be the cream of Dallas’ rookie crop

The 2023 rookie class in Dallas – aside from placekicker Brandon Aubrey – continues to underwhelm this season. While Aubrey was setting a new NFL record on Sunday, Luke Schoonmaker was coming up short in a crucial situation. But at least he got on the stat sheet. Which is more…
